Windows 8... Do NOT buy it.
As a cruel trick on myself, about a month ago I installed Windows 8 on my main PC to see what it was like. The answer is: abysmal.  I don’t think it’s an exaggeration to say that Windows 8 is the worst computing experience I’ve ever had. As a desktop operating system, it’s annoying, frustrating, irritating, and baffling to use. I’ve tried on many occasions to explain exactly why it’s so awful to...

Raspberry Pi Anyone?
Again, sorry for not posting in a while. So I just got in invite to purchase the Raspberry Pi!  For those of you who don’t know, it’s a very small computer (about the size of a deck of cards) that has an ARM 11 CPU, a pretty hefty GPU (can play 1080p@30fps) and only costs …drumroll please…. $35!!!! There has been so much hype over these little guys that in order to buy...

I'm going back to college
Well, here it is, almost a month since my last post.  It seems without a wedding to be planning, I’m running out of steam for writing here… I still will from time to time, (don’t worry mom, I know you’re probably my only reader).  But… yeah… So it turns out, I actually will be getting to go back to school and getting my masters degree :D   After a lot of...

I wish I could go back to college
So my coworker just sent me this video.  It’s about generative art.  He thought it was cool and thought it might spark a sense of inspiration for my work here… wrong… it sparked my desire to continue my education.  It sparked my wish to go back and do my education all over again.   Here’s my dilemma… Out of my entire time in college, the one thing I would want to...

Been a while
Really sorry it’s been a while again since last post.   You would think that once you get married, you get your free time back… NOPE! You still have so much stuff to do.  You have to unpack all the gifts you got, you have to write all the thank you cards, you have friends calling you constantly cause they haven’t seen you since the wedding and want to hang out.  It’s...

Married
Well Team, It’s official! I am finally married!  I know lots of you ladies out there are probably crying into your pillows now at the thought of having missed your chance at all of this ;).  My condolences.  But I am over the moon right now. I am happily married! Sorry that it’s been a while since my last post and that I didn’t make a post the day of the wedding, but hey,...

Wedding - Marriage License (almost there)
Wow! We’re just about a week away from the big day now! Next friday! We got our marriage license today!  I actually went over my lunch break yesterday to go try and pick it up, but it turns out that we both had to be present, so today we went together.   When I went, I went to the office that’s up near where I work.  It was clean, new, nice, and had a very friendly staff. (I already...

Android Tip
Just a tip for anyone out there who is having the same problems I was having with an Android Phone.  As you may know, I just got the Galaxy Note LTE from AT&T, and I work on a Mac. I had been told that Android doesn’t play nice with OSX and that to trade files I would have to download Android File Transfer.  I did so, thinking that once I did, I would have an easy time swapping my...

I got a new phone!
I absolutely love it! I got the Galaxy Note, and it’s screen is pretty much twice the size of my old iphone!  It’s fast, it’s beautiful, it’s powerful, and it’s big!  I had been getting really frustrated with Apple recently, especially after updating to iOS5 on my 3GS.  They tell everyone on an iPhone to update to this new, super cool OS and you can get certain...

First Bridezilla moment
So a couple weeks ago, I ran in a 5k race called the Warrior Dash.  Emily came to support me and cheer me on.  It was a beautiful bright sunny day and nobody thought “Hey, we might get sunburned.” Well, of course we got sunburned!  But here’s the problem, Emily got sunburned wearing a tanktop and it left tan-lines.  We’re getting married in less than a month now and...

New Bed
Something else super note-worth that happened this last weekend, was we got our new bed!  We got a king!  It is HUGE! It’s so comfortable too! I sleep like a baby now!  Not only is it wider than our last bed, but it’s also about a foot higher, so it was hilarious watching Koda try and jump up on it the first few times and fail epically!  It was scheduled to arrive Saturday morning, so...

Wedding Planning - Cakes, Food tasting, and More!
Wow, ok, so I’m a little behind on posts about wedding planning from the male’s side of view.  …where to begin…… Chronological! Cake Tasting 2 weeks ago we went and tasted cake!  AWESOME! There are 2 parts of the wedding planning process that all men are actually excited about.  The cake tasting and the food tasting!  At the cake tasting, it was a blast!  We got to...

Virtual Machine Inside Browser
http://blog.chipx86.com/2012/03/13/wsx-virtual-machines-in-your-browser/ He points out that it’s a work in progress.  Right now he has an installer for linux, yes, and he says that the windows one is on it’s way.  Audio being broken, yeah, that prevents you from using sound on it, like movies/youtube, but it won’t stop you from doing other stuff on it that you couldn’t do...

Warrior Dash
I ran the Warrior Dash this last Saturday!  It felt so amazing!  I haven’t run in forever, and this was like jumping back in cold turkey.  It was quite possibly the most exhausting thing I’ve ever done.   The race was in Splendora, Texas, and you have to run through knee deep mud for most of it, with the only exception to being in mud is when you’re on one of the several...

Life Update
Wow, really sorry for such a long gap in posts lately (not that I think anybody other than my mom reads this blog right now…).   I’ve been crazy busy lately with a myriad of things.   Wedding planning be a top contender. At this point, we’re down to the wire, down to the countdown, down to the final sprint to the finish line.  Me, I’m not worried at all, in fact, I keep...

Wedding - Engagement Photos
That was fun!  A couple days ago, we got to have our engagement photos taken.  It was our first chance to work with the photographer to see how she works and talks and just kinda get inside each other’s heads so we know what to expect when dealing with photos the day of the wedding.  Awesome!  She is incredible! She was very nice, very fun, and very good at what she does!  After the...

Wedding Planning - Invitations
Wow! Ok, so a while back we went and met with the designer who will be designing our invitations for the wedding.  The meeting went well, she seemed very nice and the final products she showed us looked incredible.  So Emily and I were excited to be getting such a great product! WRONG! We got our proofs back yesterday (which happened to be a week and a half later than she said she would have to...

Wedding Planning - Flowers
We had our meeting with the florist this weekend.  Needless to say, we have flowers picked out! Not so sure what we got because I don’t know anything about flowers.  I remember we did get a cool thing for the tables during the reception.  We’ll have half the tables centerpieces with a vase filled with candles and a flower wreathe around the outside of it, and the other half will have a...

Tuxedo
I have a tux style picked out!  And boyyyy do I look sharp ;) Well, ok, so no I didn’t actually get to try it on, but I’ve picked out the style for me, the groomsmen, ushers, and dads.  I kinda like this, I didn’t realize that I would get such customization in it.   I’m getting to wear a black 2 button jacket, white shirt, sliver regular tie (I know the picture to the...

Coffee In My Face!
FFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUU, I just got coffee in my eyes!  I just refilled my coffee, and I have a routine with my coffee.  I use my brushed tin coffee thermos every time, I take it in the break room, I rinse it in the sink twice, I put one ice cube down in it (that way it melts the ice cube as I pour hot coffee in it and then I can drink it sooner) and I put 2 spoons of powdered creamer in it, then I...

Chocolate
MmMMmmmmMM… chocolate!  This will be the downfall of me.  I do NOT have a sweet tooth.  And by that, I mean that I don’t get these cravings where I HAVE to have a piece of candy or chocolate.  But if somebody plops some candy on my desk, I will sit here and eat that candy ALLLL day!  That’s what’s going on right now.  I can’t stop eating these chocolates my parents...

My first invisible wall in Skyrim
Imagine my disappointment, last night I was playing Skyrim, and I’ve been playing the game for many hours now, and I JUST NOW discovered my first invisible wall :(.  One of the things I loved so much was the “if you can see it, you can go there” mentality of the game…  albeit it did look like pathway for future DLC, but still, the freaking road goes on and when I tried to...

Today in Nerdism
Today’s nerdism:  Big step forward in the internet world!  Mozilla released Firefox v9.0  To break down why this is important: Firefox 9 has a completely revamped javascript engine in it that is reporting speeds between 30-50% faster than firefox 8.  IMO Google Chrome was only marginally faster than firefox 8, and now that firefox 9 is out, it’s BLOWING Chrome out of the water.  I...

Merry Freakin' Christmas
Merry Christmas… There is so much stress with everything this time of year, dealing with Xmas in general, and also dealing with trying to make everyone happy.  Everyone being Emily, my mom, my family, Emily’s family… the whole 9 yards.  I can’t win when I try and make everyone win.  So this year, I think I’ve given up trying.  I’ve made Emily cry, I’ve...

My response to Adobe Muse
I can’t believe the idiotic move Adobe is trying to pull.  They’re trying to make a new program similar to photoshop, but when you’re finished with the design, instead of having just an image, it will export a collection of HTML files so you can just upload a webpage without ever having to know any code.  HA!!!  It is going to be so buggy and have so many problems.   My...

Brief Day by Day of England
Ok, this is what I managed to type down in my phone each day of our trip.  It’s brief, sorry, but it does convey the excitement I had and it’s either this or nothing because I don’t think I have enough time to type out my entire trip (it’s hard enough just explaining it all vocally). Day 1- Most time spent in airport, got to knaresborough and went for walk to fish &...

I'm Back!
Ok, sorry, I’ve been back for a couple days now, and the trip was absolutely amazing!  I still don’t have time to give a full write up about the trip, but it is on the way.  Things are just a little crazy still, having only gotten back a couple days ago and having my family over for Thanksgiving (they’re coming in tonight).  Wish us luck!

Ok guys! I’m going to England for a week!  I’ll do my best to post pics/videos, but in the event that I can’t because the cost of data will be rediculous… I’ll make a whole bunch of posts when I get back all at once chronicling my trip!

Strategy RPG
I’m tired of not having a good old fashioned Strategy RPG anymore.  You know the good old days of FF Tactics or Disgaea, or even the newer Fire Emblem series.  I started playing FF again last night and got really nostalgic of the good ole days of quality RPGs.   So I’ve decided that this is going to be my new personal project.  I want to make a classic RPG with 16 bit graphics and the...

Being a Home-Owner
First of all: Wow!  …just… WOW! I love owning a home!  It feels so good to drive home to it and pull up in my driveway, and look at it and be able to say, “This is OUR home! We own this!”  And it’s huge!  I love living in Texas.  We would have gotten a shanty lean-to for the same price if we tried to live in any other state. (I know this from watching Property...

The Jargon
Jargon is a bad thing. The more complicated your communication, the harder it is for a prospective customer to make a decision. In fact, in one study by branding firm Siegel + Gale, health insurance brands alone could gain $6 billion by offering greater transparency and simplicity in their products and communication. That’s a lot of money for the taking by just communicating more clearly...
